I think it would nice if GPS coordinates could be entered to set a new place.
Well, yes, but for now we can pan and zoom to the place (within the resolution of the map) and Sidebar | Add Place … which can then be edited/renamed with the three dot menu.
This is correct and I have panned to the location I want to set as a place. But, with the inability to zoom the map in to see really good street details, it’s difficult to pan to the precise location you want. I realize, since it’s displaying model output, you really just need to pan to a location that is relatively close. But, with the map limited in how close you can zoom, it’s still difficult to set the location relatively close.
Thank you.
Two considerations in your favor …
-
Forecast model output is provided in 3km grids for NOAA HRRR and NAM, and 25km for GFS, for example
-
It’s only model output, with plenty of error. Notice the differences between them all for any location is much greater than of any single model between locations within a 75km (45 mi) radius.
However, entering grid coordinates would likely be appreciated by some users, especially those far from a location in the geoname database.
