New Model: UKMO 2km

We have just released the very impressive UKMO 2km model.

Resolution: 2km
Time steps: 15 minute!!, 1 hour and 3 hours.
Forecast Range: 12 hours, 54 hours or 5 days (see below for more details)
And a new forecast every hour!!!

This is one of the most impressive models on the planet.

Regarding the forecast range, the:

  • 0300, 1500 model runs extend 5 days
  • 0600, 0900, 1200, 1800, 2100 model runs extend 54 hours
  • the rest extend 12 hours.

Because of the variable forecast ranges, Flowx has a NEW FEATURE to overlay multiple model runs in order to display the best available data extending out 5 days.

You will see details in the Info dialog and on the graph with the transition lines:

  • “@” means the current or latest forecast
  • “>” means the extended forecast
  • “>>” means the maximum extended forecast.

For example, if the latest forecast extends 12 hours, the previous forecast extends 54 hours, then you’ll see all three symbols (@, >, >>) on the graph where the last symbol (>>) represents the older 120 hour forecast.

UKMO 10km also supports this feature. More models will support this feature soon.

Finally there is an OpenZone over the UK for two weeks so users can trial this new model.

This model is fantastic! I’m in Connecticut, USA.

I use another app to give me local precipitation alerts and I find that this model is generally right in sync.

I don’t see the @, > and >> symbols anywhere but I’m not sure I need them.

This is a great addition to the app.

Right now, if you have tvo graphs, you should see it in the second one.
